P.S. I Hated the Movie!

So after reading P.S. I Love You I really wanted to see what they did with the movie. I knew nothing about the movie before I watched it. I didn't know who was playing what part, etc. Well....

BLLLLLAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

It was SHITE!!

Hillary Swank as Holly? Really?! No. How about Kate Bosworth? I mean, she's not an Academy winner or anything, but this isn't an Academy worthy story either. Jennifer Garner might have even been a better pick, even though she gets on my damned nerves. I can think of loads of other actors who would have been better for Holly.

Then there was the whole issue of movie Holly being an entirely different character than book Holly. I understand in movies they add things or delete things when adapting a book for screen, but changing the characters entirely? No.

And they did this with all the characters.

And they weren't even Irish! Only Gerry was Irish in the movie. Complete bullshit, if you ask me. Did they do that because Hillary Swank can't do an Irish accent? Or because they thought Americans would only be interested if the movie took place in New York? Ugh.

I did love seeing James Marsters, but they screwed the character (John) out of the childhood friend of Gerry part.

Also, Gerard Butler as Gerry seems right on. Okay, but I don't even know what the fuck they did with his hair in some of those scenes.

And what the fuck did they do to Daniel?! I have no hateration for Harry Connick, Jr. But seriously, what the fuck did they do to Daniel? They completely changed him and made him out to be this complete wanker. "I have a syndrome" that makes me "rude." WTF?! Look, Ahern was witty and funny enough in the  book with what she did with the character, so why not just keep it there?

They went and added a William. Did I miss William in the book? And you know what? If they're just gonna go ahead and add a sex scene that was never in the book, why can't Hollywood do that with Twilight? I wish they would have Edward and Bella boinking before marriage. 'Cause that would be funny. I digress. William ends up being the childhood friend of Gerry and Holly just so happens to sleep with him. O.Kay.

The plus side is, William (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was hot. And that is all. But they could have put the same actor in as Daniel instead. He looked more like "Daniel." (ooooohhh He was Denny Duquette on Grey's Anatomy! oooohhhhhh)

Lisa Kudrow as Denise? No.

Gina Gershon as Sharon? No.

I don't completely understand why they tried to turn them into the Sex and the City Girls.

And then what did they do to Holly's parents? I mean, why is that even necessary? Adding this sub-plot that Holly's dad walked out on her mom and her mom is Kathy Bates and a bitch? I can live with them taking out the brothers, but turning her mom into a bitch? That just seems unnecessary to me. It didn't make the film more interesting.

But then, I've read the book. Maybe if you haven't read the book, it's a good movie. I don't see how you would think that though. None of the characters were likable., except Gerry. The script seemed forced. It just sucked all around. What a shame. If I were Cecelia Ahern, I'd be pissed.

  1. I have to give the movie props for 3 things:

    1. Jeffrey Dean Morgan rocks my world in a major way. I'd watch him standing around reading the phone book.

    2. It had my favorite Pogues song: Fairytale of New York.

    3. It had a Flogging Molly song in it at the end.

Every thing else...well, you covered it.
