A lot has been going down "back home" in Bama. I would like to share them because I am going to burst. See, this is what sucks about being away from your family. No one around here is as excited as I am because they just don't get it.
I am one of many children - 5 to be exact. My older sister is a single mother to one genius little boy. No really, he is a genius. My older brother is married and has two little boys. His wife and I were in the same high school class and even though we hated each other then, we're totally thisclose now. My sister, brother and I are from my dad's first marriage. Then I have two younger brothers from my dad's second marriage. Now, my step mom and I are incredibly close and I call her mom. There's history there, but this isn't the time.
I'm telling you this because it's pertinent to the story. I promise. The youngest of us joined the Marines in December. He just left this week for his 2 year assignment to Japan. This is sadness. But, sometime in March he met a girl. And this girl struck his fancy. They talked all the time on Facebook and on the phone. When he was home, they spent every waking hour together.
He told me they are engaged. No one in my family is really talking about it because they aren't sure how serious he is and they think he's too young and that he doesn't know her that well, etc etc. My brother and his girl met on Facebook. I've never met this girl face-to-face, but she has the same name as me, which is, quite weird. I have talked to her on the phone and she seems great. The first thing she said to me was: "I heard you and your husband met online. Right?"
Well, yes, we did. So I guess Littlest Marine Bro is justifying his relationship with his woman with what went down with Husband and I. It's fascinating really.
My other little brother just graduated from college. He's going to be a math teacher and a coach. Cause he's cool like that. He's also the first in our family to graduate from college (I was supposed to be the first, but well...). He called last night and he is now engaged to his girlfriend of two or more years. I've only met her once. This is the problem with living so far away from home.
Little Coach Math Brother proposed to his woman when picking her up from the airport. He had a sign with her name on it. When she came through security, he turned it around and the other side said "Marry me." He said he drew a picture of himself on his knee. He said he drew in stick figure. I am dying to this sign. It is so him! He said she told him "You're joking!" So he says to me, and I quote: "So then I had to get on my knee, right there in the airport in front of everybody. There was like 500 people around us and everyone started clapping."
I told him it was the perfect romantic movie proposal. He said he knew that and he so didn't want that. He's funny that way.
So now both my little brothers are engaged. There is such happiness going on back home. I called my mom right after I talked to Little Coach Math Brother and she literally screamed into the phone. She had known for 7 weeks cause she gave him her mother's engagement ring.
I know I am rambling and if you get through all of that, I congratulate you. I am so very excited, I can't even describe it. What's even better is Little Coach Math Brother's wedding will most likely happen in June. I was already planning a trip home next summer, so it's very convenient for me. I am just too excited. I only wish my brothers would have a double wedding. it would save me a trip and about two grand. Haha
