I have missed two days in a row of "happy." Mostly it's cause I've not had a chance to do this whole blogging thing.
Monday I spent the whole day folding and putting away laundry. I was about 2 weeks behind. For me, washing clothes isn't an issue. It's the folding and putting away that's a pain in the ass. So, if I had written a blog that day, it would have been about the movies I watched while folding the laundry. In a way, this has become my way of getting time for myself. Husband understands that the children need to be out of my room while I am doing the laundry because they come in and mess up all my stacks. Laundry = perfect excuse to get some down time. You'd think I would do it more often! (But I am almost 100% positive that Husband would never let me get away with it every weekend!)
The first movie I watched was Miss Potter. It was suggested to me by a friend. Let me just tell you, I loved it. I pretty much love anything with Ewan McGregor though. Except Star Wars. And Moulin Rouge. Miss Potter was really sweet. And surprisingly feminist. I mean, I'm not raging feminist or anything. But I did love how Beatrix Potter didn't give a damn about society rules and went to the printing press (holy hell! a woman at the printing press to see her book being printed!). And how awesome for a woman to be a best-selling author! And I love how, despite all that "We are women!" (yay millie!), it was okay to be loved by a man. Not because you needed a man to survive, but because you were in love. Because he loved you in all your "i am woman!" glory. And you didn't need to reject his love because you are woman! and you don't need a man! You want to be loved and I think at the very basic level, we all want to be loved right?
Then I watched the very depressing The Duchess. Have you seen this movie? omg, it makes me cry. It's so flipping depressing. It literally hurts my heart. And also, rich people are fucked up.
Next was the Other Boleyn Girl. Okay, seriously fucked up movie. Seriously. For me, that movie is hatred all around. Except for George Boleyn. He's the only one I loved. And felt really bad for in all his gayness. I really love Jim Sturgess. Mostly because he's in Across the Universe, which is currently my favorite Beatles song and I love the movie. But I digress. I don't know what made me more sick about this movie (which is based on the book by Phillippa Gregory and I should read it): the dad and uncle putting the girls up as mistresses for the King to advance themselves or Anne Boleyn screwing over her sister or Anne Boleyn asking her brother to have sex with her so she could get pregnant, or King Henry VIII raping Anne Boleyn or Anne Boleyn getting her head whacked off. And the irony of it all is that Anne Boleyn's daughter is the one who was possibly the best monarch of all in England. Ever. I felt bad for Anne and Mary because if it hadn't been for their stupid uncle, maybe they would have been okay.
Finally, I watched Elizabeth The Golden Age. Mostly because I don't have the first Elizabeth and i am thinking I will put it on my Christmas List. I love the first Elizabeth movie, but appreciate this movie. I figured since I had just watched that historical fiction about her mother, I should watch Elizabeth The Golden Age too. By the way, I do think Elizabeth is possibly the best movie ever.
All in all, it was a British kind of day. And yes, it took me that long to fold all that laundry. Of course, only half of it got put away. Cause putting away the other half would have meant leaving my room and missing my movie marathon. No way was that gonna happen.
I used to hate doing laundry. Now I actually enjoy it. I find it very relaxing.
ReplyDeleteIt takes me forever to get it all put up, too.
I think it's cool that your laundry time is also your down time. :)
