30 Days of Happy, Day 10: Morning Walks

This morning I woke up before anyone else in my house and decided to put on my tennis shoes and go a-walking.

I've gotten it into my head that 3 years of saying "I want to start hiking again" is long enough and I am actually going to try to do it.

I thought last year would be my year. I quit smoking. We moved to a nifty neighborhood and there are some interesting trails around here. Never got around to it.

Then I was reading in my church's newsletter about a hiking group and they are taking a trip to Sedona. I love Sedona. I've always wanted to hike there. Husband thinks I am crazy. He's not a hiker. So I've never had anyone to do it with. It's times like this I really miss my dad. We used to go hiking together when we went camping.

Anyway, this morning I got up and I went a-walking. There's a big ole hill that I've decided to walk up every day so I can get my body used to going up and down. This week, I've taken Lil Miss to school and then Lil Man and I have made the trek up the hill. We stop at the park and he plays and then we go down the hill.

I am hoping I will be ready for a Sedona hike by middle of October. I'm hoping!

In any case, taking a walk in the quiet of the morning is really awesome. (And it doesn't hurt if I lose a little weight since I've gained about 15 lbs since spring and I can't wear any of my jeans right now and plus, my little brother's wedding is next year.)
