30 Days of Happy Day Four: Auburn Kickoff!

WAR EAGLE!!!

I am an huge Auburn University Tigers fan. Huge. Big. Ginormous! I bleed orange and blue.

Today was Auburn's first game of the season. Auburn won, beating La Tech 37-13.

I am happy. I love football. It brings a lot of great memories for me. I love the excitement of the game. I love the sights, the smells, the sounds of a game day back home.

Sometimes, watching the games makes me homesick. Mostly because watching the games on T.V. and with no one who cares as much as you sucks. And some of it is because I see my home, and a huge part of who I am, and I am nowhere near it. I want nothing more than to be a part of it again. (Not just football, but the whole package that came with it - if that makes sense.)

I miss waking up in Auburn on game day. You could literally feel the excitement - it was like electricity crackling through the air. It sounds cliched, but it's the only way to describe it. It's like pulling a favorite sweater out that's been in storage and it pops and crackles from the static. That's what it feels like on game day back home.

The sight of the RVs pulling into town days before the game was enough to make you giddy (as long as they don't take up too much space in the student parking lot).

Then there's the smell of the BBQ going early on Saturday morning for tailgating.

And there's never anything wrong with popping open a beer before noon on game day.

Finally. Finally, there's the most wonderful greeting being shouted all over campus. "WAR EAGLE!" These two simple words bring me a lot of joy. It's a recognition of what we have in common; our Auburn Family. It sounds hokey, but there really is something special about being an Auburn Tigers fan.

It's great to be an Auburn Tiger!
