So a few months ago I got a bread machine. I can't remember what month it was, but it was around February or March. Anyway, I got this thing and I got an apron too. I do need an apron while in the kitchen. I almost always make a big mess.
And so started the great experiment of homemade bread. The bread machine is, in fact, the best thing since sliced bread (ha! see what I did there?). I started making our own bread. It's a big hit with the fam. And my house smells so good! Homemade bread does not last that long, and in the past week I have had to make 3 loaves because it gets eaten so quickly. But it's okay. 'Cause it's so good.
I am going to attempt to experiment with other breads besides just white. I tried making wheat bread once before, but it was not good. I am going to try to make honey wheat this time and I am using a different recipe. I'm also going to try making an Italian bread with Parmesan crust. We'll see how that works out since usually when I experiment it turns out very, very bad.
The bread machine has a dough cycle. I am determined to make my own cinnamon rolls. I just mix up the dough and then put it in the machine and it does all the kneading and rising for me. Again, that could turn out very, very bad. I can also make my own pizza dough....should I ever choose to do it.
I feel a certain sense of power when I triumph in the kitchen. I have been known to burn quite a few meals. Also, I set the kitchen on fire once. That mishap left me scarred for a few years. I am very scared to cook with oil now. Because of these things, I am very excited when something turns out edible.
Last night I felt very accomplished in the kitchen as I baked bread in the bread machine so we could have sandwich bread for a couple of days. I made cornbread for our supper and I also homemade cookies. Yes! I'm Betty Crocker! Also, also, this morning I made biscuits and they turned out the way they should! In the past, my biscuits were....well....let's just move on.
My husband's accomplishments in the kitchen are always greater than mine. He's a superb cook. He made a roasted chicken with lemon pepper and gorgeous mashed potatoes with gravy yesterday. I'm always jealous of his abilities. He experiments all the time and it always turns out so good. He's the chef, I'm the baker. I guess it works.
Sounds like you are very skilled as a baker. You have learned from your previous mistakes?! :) Honey wheat bread sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am trying to learn. I have to use recipes though. If I guess at something, it can be bad! lol
ReplyDeleteMy experiment actually turned out pretty good! Even the kids ate some of the bread. Yay me! :)
