Happy and Merry!

A little break from the Blog Challenge to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

a lil dark! oops! sorry!

You know what I love about Christmas? My kids. It's their smiles and laughter and excitement that has brought the magic back into Christmas. I swear, I'm more excited about them waking up Christmas morning to see what Santa has brought them than they are!

This morning, I was awake before them, like Christmases past. I have to will myself not to joyfully run into their rooms, jumping up and down to wake them up. "Santa came! Santa came!" So, I fix my coffee and I wait in the peace and quiet in front of the tree.

While the house was still asleep, I reminisced about my childhood Christmases. I smiled at the memory of my younger brother waking every one up at 4 a.m. in his excitement about Christmas. We'd all ooh and ahh at what Santa brought us and then rip through the presents under the tree. My mom always had a specific order she wanted us to unwrap our presents. Now that I have children of my own, I see that it was for her benefit to see our faces at each gift. We'd eat candy and play with our gifts. My parents would fix breakfast. Then we'd all relax into a state of contentment. Some of us would fall asleep. Some of us would continue to play. (With 5 kids, it varied.)

Then, finally, we'd all get ready to go to my Uncle's for Christmas in the afternoon. This gathering always seemed hours long. Hours before we ate dinner. Hours before we ate dessert. Hours before we opened presents. It was hot and crowded and chaotic. So different from my Christmas now, which is just the 4 of us relaxing all day in our pajamas.

Right now, there is peace and contentment in my household. The kids and their dad have had a couple epic battles with light sabers. And are playing the Wii. Or with the trains. And I am in the kitchen, preparing for our Christmas dinner. Okay, technically, I am in front of the computer writing this blog. But I will be in the kitchen. ha!

From my home to yours, Merry, merry Christmas!
