Lacking Confidence?

I was emailing back and forth with Lil Miss' teacher the other day. We were discussing that it seems like Lil Miss is struggling with her school work lately. I've noticed Lil Miss is just not focusing on it as much as she used to.

Her teacher thinks she's struggling with the harder curriculum because she's lacking confidence. The teacher feels if Lil Miss was more confident, she would not struggle.

So now we're faced with the question "how to boost her confidence?"

Now, I know my 6 yo. And it seems her teacher knows a little about her too. Lil Miss is a perfectionist. She's especially that way about her handwriting. She will erase and re-erase until her writing is perfect. I think she focuses more on that than her spelling or punctuation or capitalization. She takes "practice makes perfect" very seriously. But now we have to explain that it's okay if her handwriting isn't perfect, but she needs to be able to pass her spelling tests without damaging her ego.

She's very sensitive. So approaching this subject is very delicate. So I've been asking her questions every so often and talking to her about school work. And today we'll spend the day together.

I just hope we can give her the confidence she needs to do well in her life. sigh
