New Facial Cleanser? That is so YUM!

I've been reading a lot lately about natural remedies for facial cleansers/soaps/shampoos. I keep coming across all these recipes involving food. At first, I got all excited. "Yogurt and honey? Awesome!"

But before I headed to the refrigerator, something occurred to me.

This is food I'm about to slather on my body. And food is expensive. And in true me fashion, images of children in Haiti sleeping in the streets popped into my head and the following thoughts run through my mind:

What a luxury to be able to slather food on one's body in order to "purify" oneself. I get that our every day soaps and shampoos have tons of chemicals in them. And who wants that? But really, food is precious and it seems superfluous to go and apply it to my face.

This whole "go green" thing gets to me at times. It seems like such a trend that we're not thinking things through. Sure, an avocado might be better for my skin than Neutrogena, but that doesn't mean I should go out and buy one just to slather on my face. Does it?

I can't afford organic food to put into my body, why would I put it on my body? It's a waste of money. And if you don't buy organic, well you'll end up putting chemicals on your body anyway because of all the pesticides and genetic engineering that takes place in foods these days. So there's no point in putting food on me is there?

Also, I'd just be contributing to the evil food industry because I'd have to buy more food.

How does buying more food to use for aesthetic purposes actually help the environment? It doesn't seem sustainable at all. (see chemicals/genetic engineering/evil food industry comments above.)

I definitely can't afford that much olive oil.

If I went and slathered food on myself, it'd get washed down the drain. Better for the earth than Pantene, sure. But it's a waste.

And finally, if there was a natural disaster in my neighborhood would people send food so I could put it on my zits? No.

All of a sudden, the idea of using food to wash my face seems beyond ridiculous.
