Losing My Religion

As you all know, Anne Rice recently decided to leave the Catholic Church. Well, she's pretty much said everything I've been feeling for several months. That's right. Christianity and I broke up a few months ago. It just wasn't working. I had to let it go.

Our relationship started getting really rocky when prop 8 passed in California. It got even worse as the face of Christianity became less about Jesus' teachings and more about the Teabagger version of Christianity. And the more I watched people interpret Christianity into this warped and perverted version of it, the less I wanted any part of it.

I haven't gone so far as to reject the idea of God or Jesus. But I can't trust organized religion. Because it's controlling. So I've divorced it. It's not possible to be part of something that screams so loudly against the things you know to be right.

So, Christianity, this is my farewell. My final goodbye. It was a good run. Thanks for the memories. You do have some good people in your family. But you and I.....we just grew apart.

  1. It is unfortunate that a bunch of ridiculous and outspoken lunatics can ruin something for so many people. I am definitely not religious, and this is probably one of the reasons why. I guess the important thing is that you have faith in your god and that you act accordingly.

  2. I'm feeling the EXACT same way. My family had a horrible experience when our church got a new paster. He basically pushed my mother out of her position as Children's Minister because he does not like working with women. He even said that, out loud...AND made sexist jokes from the pulpit.
Plus, I feel the same way about the issues. Most of my friends are gay and lesbians, and I am the biggest Hag you will ever find...and I can't support an organization that would treat them so UN-christ like.
I believe in God, but I do not have any faith in religion.
